[Premium] Akbar Birbal - Brindavani Saarang & Darbari live with choreography
Our play had a grand opening. Here are some of the Saarang based songs that we performed with live choreography.
A dream come true. I got to be the music director for a musical play. Akbar Birbal - grand musical which opened at the Village Theatre in Danville CA. The production included a cast of 75+ people and a super-talented music team of 7 handpicked artists. Here’s a photo from rehearsals the night before the show.
I won’t go into it all, but I quickly wanted to share videos as I was processing them. The play had two main themes - Bhairav (oud, guitar and flute) & Saarang - common raganga amongst songs. Here are some of the Saarang and Malhar compositions that the group covered.
First up, Ban Ban dhoondhan, a krishna bhajan in Miya ki Saarang 🙂 performed by the inimitable Manasa Gadepalli.
Here’s Saarang Jam, our improvised version of Agam’s OG track.
Thanks to everyone who showed up in person for the play. More videos are coming, so remember to subscribe.
There’s a cool video of a Tarana in Darbari set to kathak choreography by Pampa Dance Academy. Prateeksha was in the dance group, and she helped me prep the padanth(tabla bols) and the timing of the sections. Ajay helped me stay in lay. More videos are available for a small fee.
